The giant anaconda is one of the most elusive of all creatures. Before his disappearance in 1925 in the Amazon Jungle Colonel Percy H. Fawcett of the British Army reported his encounter with 62 foot anaconda. Serge Bonacase, a Frenchman, told of shooting a sleeping anaconda in Brazil in 1947. The serpent was approximately 75 feet long! The head alone was 2 feet long! A 1949 Brasilian newspaper account tells of a 131 foot anaconda that weighed 5 tons. The giant anaconda is equally at home on land and in the water. While they are constrictors they also have lots of teeth and do bite. They are masters of camouflage and have no natural predators.
The great white shark is a natural killing machine with several rows of razor sharp teeth and cold black eyes. Like the giant anaconda they have no natural predators, other than man. One of the largest great white sharks ever recorded was captured in the 1870's in Australia. It measured 36 feet long.

In my mind, this is like a match-up between Roy Scheider and Ice Cube, which of course is a no-brainer.
Anaconda. Ice Cube and camouflage. Plus, the anaconda can doesn't have to be in constant motion and the great white does. Constant motion is a definite disadvantage.
I think the dexterity of the anaconda and its detachable jaw give it certain advantage. But, lets ponder this further:
Can one strangle a shark? How do gills factor into the strangling process? The shark could always take a deep dive after the snake is wrapped around it and deprive it of oxygen before the anaconda could effectively strangle it. And how effective is that detachable jaw when the great white can open its mouth four or five feet wide?
Formidable foes indeed, but I think the great white brings the victory.
My prediction: The anaconda will be sort of like a really big reptilian red vine for the great white.
Yick--the Anaconda gives me the heebie-jeebies. The snake would definitely try wrapping itself around the shark in order to hug it to death, but I am hoping the shark would be able to sink its teeth into the snake's flailing body. I just want the Great White to kill the Anaconda 'cause it gives me the creeps and I want it to go away. Now.
Based on my extensive study in this area (I have seen Jaws after all), I have to go with the shark...
